Hi Shaun Kirkpatrick + Bronz,
I can’t get enough of Carried By The Storm. It is a shame that it took a tragedy (Lee) to prompt you to remaster and release the album, but I and I hope a lot of other people out there am really impressed and knocked out by all the songs on the CD. Ian Baker has a brilliant voice. I got into Bronz around 10/11 years ago after getting big into Taken By Storm with Max Bacon.
Max is also a brilliant singer, but after many listens Ian is even better- he is more well-rounded. I think that Max Bacon is one of THE vocalists and so is Ian- very underrated. Are there any plans for an album of new 2011/2012 (scares me to think that far ahead…) material? …thank you for persevering with music and giving us what may well be THE BEST AOR ALBUM EVER. The production is stellar and there is a lot of different things tried in every track.I think Ian is very much a different kind of approach with a lighter touch than Max Bacon, but occasionally he does remind a bit of Max. I can’t really see Max handling a song like “You And Me” or “Man Girl Machine” with the same magic Ian applies to it. Funny about Micky O’Donoghue in the band- I became big into Grand Prix right the same time I got big into Bronz 10 years ago! They’re a great band- very overlooked I think.
Carried By The Storm is so full of great hooks and melodies I really think that if you hadn’t had the label go under it would have taken off even more than Taken By Storm. I remember “Send Down An Angel” from my childhood. At the time I didn’t really know anything about the band I was only 7/8 years old but I was already being moved by music. When you look at all the crap that made it to huge hit singles Bronz/Grand Prix/Shy/Lionheart a lot of amazing bands should have done much better than just one off successes. I wish you all the luck there can be with keeping the band and the great music alive. We need it nowadays as things are really bleak with hardly any new bands playing exciting music.Carried By The Storm like ALL THE BEST OF THE 80s has got great melodic sense, real power, a lot of dynamics, and a sound that is purely your own. That is Bronz…A lot of younger English kids want rock and roll. So do I, but here in the states WE need a band like you to come over and blow things apart from the inside (Doldrums here). I hope this new release of unparalleled quality takes off takes others by the same amount of storm it takes me by. very best wishes to you,
- BEN BLAKE MITCHNER
